Lisa Vinebaum is an interdisciplinary artist, critical writer, curator and educator. Her practice combines performance, public interventions, fiber processes and protest tactics to explore the performance and enactment of identity, and the re-inscription of the language of labor struggles in the context of economic globalization and deregulation.

Bio
Lisa is an Assistant Professor in the department of Fiber and Material Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She received her BFA from Concordia University in Montreal (Quebec) and her MA and PhD from Goldsmiths, London UK.

Project
New Demands?” is a public, durational performance that connects the current crisis in timed labor to the historical struggle for workers’ rights. Drawing on archival research and slogans culled from key events in the history of labor strife in and around Chicago during the first half of the 20th century, New Demands? commemorates past labor struggles while calling attention to the current erosion of so many of the gains that workers fought for and won during the first half of the 20th century. New Demands? will take place along a route (TBA) that begins outside Defibrillator and connects the participating festival venues.
