Industry of the Ordinary
Industry of the Ordinary’s (Mathew Wilson and Adam Brooks) emphasis is on challenging pejorative notions of the ordinary and, in doing so, moving beyond the quotidian.
Through sculpture, text, photography, video, sound and performance IOTO are dedicated to an exploration and celebration of the customary, the everyday, and the usual.
“Body Language” It is a ubiquitous sight/site: text adorning clothing; images and phrases inked onto the body – ideas are projected as we, as objects, meet the world’s gaze. For Rapid Pulse, Industry of the Ordinary (IOTO) will occupy the streets and public spaces in Wicker Park and Bucktown. Here, we will interact with those members of the public that happen upon the spectacle. IOTO will offer the public a choice of rubber stamped text to adorn their skin in a language of their choosing. The phrase proffered will be translations of common responses and epithets such as, ‘Yes, Please‘ and ‘Fuck Off’. As these phrases are carried off into the city, other conversations will necessarily ensue.
